Why Disney Isn’t Just for Kids: The Magic of a Disney Couples Trip

By Kelsey Crabtree | You Can Fly Travels

When many people think of a Disney vacation, they picture families with young children, princess meet-and-greets, and classic attractions like It’s a Small World.

And if that song just popped into your head… I’m sorry. Truly. It may now live rent-free in your brain for the next 24 hours. You’re welcome.

While Disney is certainly magical for families, it’s also an incredible destination for couples.

From romantic resorts that make you forget you’re even inside a theme park to world-class dining and unique experiences, Walt Disney World offers countless opportunities for adults to enjoy a memorable getaway together.

Whether you’re celebrating an engagement, honeymoon, anniversary, or simply planning a relaxing vacation for two, a Disney couples trip can be just as magical as any family visit.

As a frequent Disney traveler — my husband and I are Annual Passholders — and as a travel advisor with You Can Fly Travels, some of my favorite Disney memories have been shared with my husband Justin.

In fact, Disney is where our story includes some of our biggest milestones. Justin proposed to me at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, we spent our honeymoon staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort, and we take multiple trips every year creating new memories at “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

Moments like these are just one example of why Disney continues to be such a meaningful destination for couples year after year.

Here are several reasons why Walt Disney World is the perfect destination for an adults-only getaway.

Romantic Resorts Perfect for Couples

Walt Disney World offers more than 25 themed resorts, many of which are ideal for couples looking for a romantic and relaxing atmosphere.

Some of the most popular Disney resorts for couples include:

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa This flagship resort is known for its elegance, waterfront views, and monorail access to Magic Kingdom. With signature dining and beautiful grounds, it’s a favorite for special occasions — and it will always be meaningful to my husband and me since it’s where he proposed.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort This tropical resort offers island-inspired theming, relaxing beaches, and stunning views of Cinderella Castle across Seven Seas Lagoon. Watching fireworks from the Polynesian beach is a favorite experience for many couples.

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort This peaceful resort offers charming Southern theming, scenic walking paths along the Sassagoula River, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes it perfect for couples. It also holds a special place in my heart since it’s where Justin and I stayed for our Disney honeymoon.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Animal Kingdom Lodge is another incredible option for couples, offering stunning savanna views where guests can see giraffes, zebras, and other animals right from the resort.

In fact, this might be my husband Justin’s favorite resort — although I’m pretty sure it has less to do with the animals and more to do with the incredible food options there.

Many couples also enjoy resort hopping, where they explore multiple Disney resorts in one evening using Disney transportation while visiting lounges, restaurants, and scenic areas.

EPCOT: Disney’s Ultimate Date Night Park

If there is one park that consistently stands out for couples visiting Walt Disney World, it’s EPCOT.

EPCOT’s World Showcase features 11 country pavilions where guests can experience authentic cuisine, beverages, entertainment, and culture from around the world.

Many couples enjoy strolling around World Showcase Lagoon while sharing drinks, appetizers, and desserts from different countries.

Seasonal EPCOT festivals make this experience even better. Popular events include:

• EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival • EPCOT International Festival of the Arts

• EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival • EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays

These festivals offer food booths, live entertainment, and immersive experiences that make EPCOT especially appealing for adult travelers.

For my husband and me, an evening in EPCOT usually includes grabbing a drink, wandering around the pavilions, and ending the night with the park’s nighttime spectacular. My go-to is often a Moonshine Sour, while Justin keeps things simple with a Michelob Ultra. We love strolling around the lagoon and just enjoying the atmosphere together.

Fireworks Cruises

One of EPCOT’s most romantic experiences is a private fireworks cruise on World Showcase Lagoon.

Couples can reserve a pontoon boat that takes them out onto the water during the nighttime spectacular. With snacks, drinks, and incredible views of the fireworks reflecting on the lagoon, it creates a quiet and unforgettable way to end the evening.

It’s one of those experiences that truly feels special and different from watching the show in the crowds.

Signature Dining Experiences

Disney is home to some of the most impressive dining options in the theme park industry, and many restaurants offer incredible experiences for couples.

Some signature dining favorites include:

California Grill Located atop Disney’s Contemporary Resort, California Grill offers fine dining with sweeping views of Magic Kingdom and the nightly fireworks.

Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera Located at Disney’s Riviera Resort, this rooftop restaurant offers stunning views and a blend of French and Italian cuisine.

Jiko – The Cooking Place Located inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jiko is known for its unique African-inspired menu and award-winning wine list. It’s actually a restaurant my husband and I are hoping to experience together soon.

Le Cellier Steakhouse This cozy Canadian steakhouse inside EPCOT’s Canada pavilion is a favorite for couples looking for an intimate dining experience.

Disney’s Michelin-Recognized Dining

Many guests are surprised to learn that Walt Disney World is also home to Michelin-recognized dining.

Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has received a Michelin Star, making it one of the most prestigious dining experiences in the entire state of Florida.

For couples celebrating a special occasion, this restaurant offers an unforgettable multi-course tasting menu with exceptional service and an elegant atmosphere.

Dining reservations open 60 days in advance, and working with a travel advisor can help ensure guests secure their most desired reservations.

Attractions, Shows, and Unique Experiences

Disney attractions appeal to guests of all ages, but there are several rides that adults especially enjoy experiencing together.

Some popular attractions for couples include:

• Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind • Tower of Terror • TRON Lightcycle / Run • Space Mountain • Test Track • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

But one of the best parts of visiting Disney as a couple is that you don’t have to rush from ride to ride.

If thrill rides aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the parks together. My husband and I actually love taking a slower park day sometimes. Instead of focusing on rides, we’ll find a show we’ve never watched before or try a restaurant we’ve never experienced and make a day out of exploring something new.

Those slower days often end up being some of our favorites. Walking through the parks, trying new experiences, and sharing a lot of laughs together makes the trip feel relaxed and memorable in a different way.

Unique Experiences Couples Love

For couples looking to try something different, Disney offers several unique experiences beyond traditional attractions.

Some favorites include:

• The Behind the Keys Tour at Magic Kingdom • Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom • Elephant Care Experience at Animal Kingdom • Beverage seminars and mixology classes during EPCOT festivals • The Behind the Keys Tour at Magic Kingdom

These experiences allow couples to see a different side of Disney while creating unforgettable memories together.

Relaxation Beyond the Parks

While the parks are a major highlight of a Disney vacation, couples often find that some of the most enjoyable experiences happen outside the parks.

Relaxing activities couples enjoy include:

• Pool days at their resort • Visiting Disney lounges and specialty bars • Watching fireworks from resort beaches • Shopping and dining at Disney Springs • Playing golf at Walt Disney World Golf Courses • Spa treatments at the Grand Floridian Spa

Resort Activities Perfect for Couples

Some of Disney’s most relaxing experiences actually happen at the resorts themselves.

Couples can enjoy unique activities like:

• Horse-drawn carriage rides at Port Orleans Riverside • Sangria University at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort • Painting classes at Wilderness Lodge • The Monorail Bar Crawl between the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian • Evening strolls and live entertainment on Disney’s BoardWalk

These slower moments often become some of the most memorable parts of a Disney couples trip.

In our case, my husband always jokes that he doesn’t need to know the full Disney itinerary. As long as he knows there will be great food and at least one round of golf, he’s happy to go along with whatever I’ve planned.

Celebrating Life’s Milestones at Disney

Walt Disney World has become one of the most popular destinations for celebrating life’s special milestones.

Couples frequently visit Disney for:

• Engagement trips • Honeymoons • Anniversaries • Babymoons • Romantic weekend getaways

Disney also offers Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons, allowing couples to celebrate weddings, vow renewals, and proposals at iconic Disney locations.
